The name of Sam’s mother is Chrissie Heughan and he has a brother named Cirdan Heughan, his father’s name is not available. His parents were part of a hippie community called Gandalf’s Garden. Sam is of the Christian religion.

Sam attended Kelly primary school, followed by studying in Jamed Gillespie’s High school in Edinburgh at the age of 12 for a year and then in Rudolf Steiner school for another year. Then he graduated in 2003 from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and drama, currently known as the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. He made his first movie debut in 2001 in the film Small Moments. He appeared for his first professional television role in 2004 in Island at War. in 2011, he became Batman in Batman live which was a touring show. He was also the principal character in King John in 2012
